RULES FOR THE USE OF THE POOL – 2023

General Pool Rules 

  • A “Family Unit” shall consist of a Wendell Swim Club Association, Inc. (WSC) shareholder and residents of the household of the shareholder. 
  • When entering the pool gate, members of the Shareholder Family Unit and guests of shareholders shall sign in using computer system. If computer system is not available shareholder must legibly print their names and stock number. 
  • No child under age 13 shall be left at the pool without direct supervision of a designated person age 14 or older. Designated person must have general maturity. WSC staff personnel shall not be considered to be persons that are supervision such children. Parents of the said children are ultimately responsible for the behavior of their children. 
  • No member shall use the pool when the pool is not normally open, with the exception of special programs, swim lessons (approved by the Board of Directors), swim team practice or after-hours pool rental. Any of these exceptions will be held under the supervision of WSC staff. 
  • ALL CHILDREN NOT FULLY POTTY TRAINED SHALL APPROPRIATELY WEAR SWIM DIAPERS WHILE IN THE POOL. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED TO PREVENT ANY ACCIDENTS IN THE POOL. SUCH ACCIDENTS WOULD RESULT IN CLOSING THE POOL UNTIL PROPER HEALTH REQUIREMENTS ARE MET. GENERALLY, IN THE CASE OF SOLID FECAL MATTER, THE POOL WILL CLOSE FOR 1 HOUR; FOR SOFT FECAL MATTER THE POOL WILL BE CLOSED FOR THE DAY. PLEASE TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS SO THIS DOES NOT OCCUR. THERE WILL BE A $100 FINE. 
  • Regular bathing suits shall be required. No cutoff jeans or frayed-edge attire shall be worn while swimming in the pool. All swimsuits and other attire must be in good taste, at the discretion and judgment of the Pool Manager. 
  • All swimmers should shower before entering the pool. If a swimmer leaves the pool to play tennis, volleyball, basketball, or play in the playground area, it will be necessary to rinse off before entering the pool. 
  • Any violation of membership privileges, general rules, and regulations by members or their guest(s) shall be reported in writing to the President of the Board of Directors or a designated committee.
  • Suspensions from the use of pool facilities may be ordered by the Board of Directors or its designated committee, as are necessary to enforce rules, by-laws, and regulations. 
  • The club manager, any lifeguard, or any member of the Board may suspend any pool user during a particular day for disobeying pool rules. Any subsequent violation may be treated on an individual basis, as far as the Board of Directors or its designated committee determines the circumstances warrant. 
  • A lifeguard shall be on duty around the pool area during normal pool operation hours, special events designated by the Board of Directors, and after-hours party rentals. 
  • No shareholder or the member of a family of any member shall purposely aid any non-shareholder to use the facilities. The first violation will result in a two week suspension for the Shareholder and his Family Unit. Any subsequent violation may be treated on an individual basis, as far as the Board of Directors or its designated committee determines the circumstances warrant. 
  • Use of the pool by nonmembers may be allowed under special circumstances, but only after approval by the WSC Board of Directors. 

Diving Board Rules 

  • Area in front and surrounding diving board are restricted to diving only when board is in use. 
  • Jump or dive generally straight forward from the board. 
  • Exit the water immediately using the closest pool ladder. 
  • DO NOT SWIM UNDER THE BOARD AT ANY TIME! 
  • One person on the diving board or ladder at a time. 
  • Divers must wait on deck until previous diver reaches pool ladder 
  • Only one (1) bounce on the board is allowed per dive. 
  • Safe diving practices are required. Cartwheels, handstands and seat drops are prohibited. 
  • Diving board users must be able to swim to the ladder unassisted and without devices such as “floaties,” life jackets, or other similar flotation devices. Lifeguards may test swimmers’ abilities before allowing swimmers’ use of the diving board. 
  • Only eye-goggles may be used (no face googles or snorkels in diving area). 
  • No backward dives from the pool deck. 
  • No gainer dives allowed on deck or diving board. 
  • Suspension of use of the diving board, based on a diver’s experience or inexperience, is at the discretion of the lifeguards.

Water Slide Rules 

  • Swimmers must slide feet first, only on their back. Keep hands inside the slide. 
  • No stopping, standing, or kneeling. 
  • Children under age 5 are not allowed on the tall blue slide. 
  • Parents or babysitters must accompany and supervise young and inexperienced children in their charge while the children are on the ladder or slide. 

Toys and Equipment 

  • Balls, floats, and other toys are permitted in pool and on deck at lifeguard’s discretion. 
  • When listening to personal audio equipment, headphones must be used. 
  • WSC is not responsible for property brought to or left at WSC. 

Appropriate Behavior 

  • Proper swim wear is required. This does NOT include jeans, cutoffs, or thongs.
  • NO PETS are allowed in the pool or on the pool deck. 
  • NO GLASS or TOBACCO is permitted anywhere in the pool area. 
  • Smoking is designated outside pool gates between the tennis courts and clubhouse. 
  • Food must be consumed in designated eating areas: inside the clubhouse, under the shelter or at picnic tables or seating areas.  Food is not permitted in restrooms, in the pool or immediately around the pool. Adults are allowed to have drinks on the edge of the pool or while in the pool at lifeguards discretion. NO GLASS AT ANYTIME IN POOL AREA.
  • Swimmers MUST stay off lap lanes, ropes, safety lines and lifeguard stands. 
  • Please refrain from distracting the lifeguards while on duty-they are here for your safety. No “hanging around” the lifeguard stands! 
  • Inappropriate behavior such as running, pushing, wrestling, excessive splashing, standing or sitting on shoulders, or spitting of water is NOT allowed and may result in ejection from the pool area. 
  • Children, ages five and older, must use their gender appropriate changing room. 
  • Use of water guns, super soakers, or other similar devices is discouraged when used on persons on the pool deck. Allowance of the use of such devices is at the lifeguards’ discretion. 
  • For safety and health, lifeguards shall direct any swimmer or bather who is showing signs of being chilled or fatigued or having been in the water too long, to remain out of the pool for a minimum of fifteen minutes. 
  • Normally, no person shall stay in the water more than one hour without a rest period 
  • At ten minutes before the top of each hour, the lifeguard will blow a whistle and all persons below eighteen years of age shall vacate the pool until the top of the hour. The exception to this rule will be if a paid swim lesson is in session or a swim team practice is scheduled. During this break time, persons of age eighteen and over may use the pool. There will be no break during the last hour the pool is open. THEREFORE, IF YOU MUST TAKE A SHOWER, DO SO BEFORE CLOSING. THE BATH HOUSE WILL CLOSE WHEN THE POOL CLOSES. 

 

Babysitters 

  • A babysitter must be fourteen years of age or older to supervise younger children. 
  • A full time babysitter that is not a member of WSC, hired by a Shareholder to provide care for their children, shall be allowed the use of the facilities at an additional cost of $15/summer.
  • A full-time babysitter MUST be registered on the membership BEFORE they will be allowed into the pool. This can be done by registering for a caregiver pass on the online portal.
  • Each case not falling within the bounds of these rules must be brought before the Board of Directors for review, to be judged on an individual basis.

 Visitors 

  • Upon entering the gate, the WSC Shareholder or family member will register their guest.
  • WSC Shareholder must remain present at the pool with their guest for entire visit. When the Shareholder leaves, so must the visitor. 
  • There will be no specific Visitor Days. Any guest may attend the WSC on any day that the pool is open. A Shareholder may bring visitors during regular pool hours. 
  • There is no limit to the number of times a particular guest may attend WSC. 
  • Single Guest Passes may be purchased via online portal or via check/cash/card at the pool.
  • Each Shareholder will have available three guest passes, free of charge, upon final payment of their membership dues. Additional Guest Passes may be purchased individually at the time of use for $5.00 each. 
  • Visitor Passes will be specific to each Shareholder family. Visitor Passes from other Shareholder families may not be used. 
  • The Shareholder is responsible for the actions and behavior of their guest(s). 
  • Visitor Passes are not required to be used for guests under 3 years of age. 
  • Shareholders may purchase a Grandparent membership for $15/year that is good for use by up to 8 grandparents for the entire season.

 Inclement Weather 

  • At the first clap of thunder heard or the first observation of lightning by WSC staff, the pool, pool deck, and outer buildings will be cleared until thirty (30) minutes have passed AFTER the last clap of thunder has been heard or the last observation of lightning. 
  • Pool patrons should seek appropriate safe shelter. 
  • For inclement weather conditions, the pool will close at the discretion of WSC staff on duty, per Wake County and Pool Professionals Policy. All members, guests, and staff will vacate the premises immediately until danger is past. 
  • Concerns/questions should be reported to the onsite pool manager or assistant manager. 

Basketball/Tennis Courts 

  • Applicable WSC rules and policies will be in effect for the basketball/tennis courts. In addition, the following rules shall apply: 
  • No food allowed on the courts. 
  • No hard-soled, black-soled, or cleated shoes on the courts. 
  • Profanity or thrown rackets may result in ejection and/or suspension. 
  • Do not walk on or behind courts while play is in progress. 
  • All play will be eliminated at one hour, if other players are waiting. 
  • No jumping tennis nets. 
  • Playing shall be limited to members and their guests. There will be a charge of $5.00 per guest. 
  • A Shareholder Family Unit member must accompany guest(s). 
  • All persons using the courts or accompanying others in the courts area do so at their own risk. WSC assumes no responsibility for any person’s use of the courts area. 
  • Do not attempt to tighten nets. Report equipment problems to the staff on duty. 

Playground Rules 

  • Applicable WSC rules and policies will be in effect for the playground area. In addition, the following rules shall apply:
  • All individuals, including children, using the play area do so at their own risk. WSC assumes no responsibility for injury or damage resulting from such use. 
  • Staff does not supervise the play area. 
  • The responsibility of parents and babysitters who accompany children to the pool continues while in the playground area. Parents and/or babysitters are responsible for the children in their charge, while those children are in the playground area. General safety and precautions should be exercised by those using the playground area. 
  • Climbing on top of shaded shelter is not permitted.
  • Individuals must rinse legs and feet upon reentering the pool area.
